Abilify, Wellbutrin and Inderal?

My psychiatrist has me on Wellbutrin, Abilify and Inderal. I would like an opinion on what those medications are primarily for and why I am on them?

Paul
Well it seem resembling you are being treated for bipolar disorder and an anxiety disorder. Often most bipolar patients find themselves taking at least two if not up to five different medications to treat the multiple occurring symptoms of bipolar. Bipolar cause depression, mania, and sometimes anxiety. You could also have ADHD. Also, most of your medications are good for general public with low energy or fatigue or slowed thinking. You are on two meds that have a stimulating effect.

Wellbutrin is used to treat depression. It is an anti-depression. It is also has a more stimulating effect near low sexual side effects. It is also used to treat people who want to stop smoking. It is said that it might help with ADHD but not officially.

Abilify is a newer type of anti-psychotic drug. Usually mood stabilizing drugs are used to treat bipolar but very soon some anti-psychotic drugs are prescribed too. Abilify is unlike most anti-psychotics because it is thought to lower chemical levels when they are too high, and increase them when they are too low. Also, Abilify has a stimulating effect unlike all other anti-psychotics. Most anti-psychotics bring in you feel very slowed down and have the zombie effect. Abilify does the exact opposite; it stimulates you and make you feel energetic and alive. It is primary used to treat mania, the rather psychotic and rapid paced thinking caused by the manic side of bipolar disorder.

Lastly, I had to research a bit on the Inderal. It is FDA approved to treat reduces autonomic timorous system arousal (ie palpitations, hyperventilation, sweating etc), however in mental health issues it can calm anxiety. It is a beta-blocker, a medication used for mostly physical effects of fear and nouns situations. I believe it calms the flow of adrenaline which stimulates the stress response.

What seems to me is that you have bipolar disorder with some sort of hysterics or anxiety disorder. But unlike most people, it has a actual physical symptoms with your heart rate rising and breathing accelerating. That is what the Inderal next to control. The Abilify will control the mania, and the wellbutrin the depression.

I don't understand why your doctor didn't tell you what condition you have, how could you not know? Either route this is what these medications are used to treat. For a more accurate diagnosis ask your psychiatrist what you have.
http://www.mentalhelp.net will give you an explanation for each medication.
