Effexor XR suddenly dropped from insurance plan?
I was trying to reorder it from Medco and then got a letter axiom they couldn't refill it because it was dropped from my plan? What is going on?
Different things happen to drugs on pharmacy plans.
One is that they go generic. When that happen, your insurer usually wants to pay only for the generic version since this is much smaller amount expensive. In that case, they may still pay for the same medication, but not for the name brand.
Another is that they steal a medication totally off the plan. In that case, they will not pay for it. They have settled that there are one or more other drugs that can do the same or better and are more cost effective. It happened to me once. I be prescribed some sort of antibiotic. It had gone generic years ago (like 40 of 50 years ago.) It had been taken off my plan so far rear legs that my plan had never heard of it. Because it had been taken past its sell-by date my plan, I had to pay the full $110 for it.(My copay for generic is $5) It turned out that I was allergic to it. (Bad move, Doctor!) I was not beaming. I had to pay an extra $105 for a medication that I couldn't even take!
Another is that the medication has be totally banned. A few years ago, I was on an Vioxx. I was on it for only one month and it be banned by the federal government because of its side effects. The drug you are talking about is one that have dangerous side effects. You should be talking to your doctor about the issue.
