Extreme heartburn after missing protonix for a couple of days?
Sometimes when my prescription for Protonix runs out, I go
a couple of days without taking this medication. I immediately
get extreme heartburn, almost unbearable, more so than I
ever had before I was on this medication. Is this normal? Will
I other have hearburn for the rest of my life and, therefore, will I have to cart Protonix for the rest of my life?

I had a brass neck stone removed and was prescribed protonix in March of 2006. It is very effective, so try not to run out. I took it for nearly a month after the surgery and then was switched to an OTC drug that wasn't as strong. Now I don't need anything.
Try not to run out of your prescription. Ask the doctor for some samples on your subsequent visit. Keep them for the inbetween refill times.
