Has anyone be taking Hyzaar for High Blood Pressure and have side effects from it?
I have been taking Hyzaar for years now and recently own had terrible leg pain and leg cramps in my calves and knees pain. I was reading about this medicine and found that it can also end in depression and anxiety. Has anyone had any of these problems with this medicine?
Hyzaar, generic name Losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide have been evaluated for safety in 858 patients treated for essential hypertension and 3889 patients treated for hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. In clinical trials near losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide, no adverse experiences peculiar to this combination have been observed. Adverse experiences have been predetermined to those that were reported previously with losartan potassium and/or hydrochlorothiazide. The overall incidence of adverse experiences reported with the combination was comparable to placebo.
In standard, treatment with losartan potassium-hydrochlorothiazide was well tolerated. For the most part, adverse experiences own been mild and transient in nature and have not required discontinuation of psychiatric therapy. In controlled clinical trials, discontinuation of therapy due to clinical adverse experiences was required in only 2.8% and 2.3% of patients treated beside the combination and placebo, respectively.
The following adverse events were also reported at a rate of 1% or greater, but were as, or more, common in the placebo group within studies of essential hypertension: asthenia/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis.
Adverse events occurred at about the same rates in men and women. Adverse events be somewhat more frequent in the elderly compared to non-elderly patients and somewhat more frequent in Blacks compared to non-Blacks for both the losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and the control groups.A patient with agreed hypersensitivity to aspirin and penicillin, when treated with losartan potassium, was withdrawn from study due to swelling of the lips and eyelids and facial rash, reported as angioedema, which returned to majority 5 days after therapy was discontinued.
Superficial peeling of palms and hemolysis were reported surrounded by one subject treated with losartan potassium.
Other adverse experiences that have been reported with losartan, in need regard to causality, are listed below:
Musculoskeletal: arm pain, arthralgia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, hip pain, integrated swelling, knee pain, leg pain, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, musculoskeletal spasm, myalgia, shoulder pain, stiffness; Source(s): http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/losarh…
Hyzaar is a combination drug, and one of the two drugs is a diuretic.
If you're low on calcium, diuretics can *really* cause your calcium to be depleted.
When I get bad charlie horses, I find that drinking around a quart of raw milk will fix it in 3-5 minutes. If I'm not home, of course, that's not available. Milk that's been pasteurized and homogenized doesn't work as okay, not by a long shot.
If you get liquid minerals from a health food store, an ounce of them will solve the problem. It's possible that the other minerals help something, but I know it's get a lot of calcium in it, and it's highly available. I have never have much success with any form of calcium tablet, including Tums and including calcium gluconate, which is supposedly highly available. Those liquid minerals are rock-hard to find, but you may find some liquid calcium or liquid mineral preparation that's able to help you.
Calcium shortages are supposed to be fruitless for the heart, so I figure adding calcium that way is a smart idea. I also try to get through a lot of the dark greens, because they're theoretically high contained by calcium.
Some people argue that *some* depression and anxiety are caused by nutritional disorders. They point to the fact that 2/3 of all Type 2 diabetics are depressives, as portion of their evidence. I'm not sold on that idea, but it sounds like it might be right - and if so, it's reasonable to assume that a diuretic can exacerbate shortages.
If you can find another hypertension drug that works for you, and has a smaller amount side effects, go for it. However, Hyzaar is a sledge hammer that normally gets prescribed with the sole purpose for people whose blood pressure hasn't responded to other meds, so you may not have many choices.
